What our clients are saying...

Hayward Construction completed the refurbishment of the Molesworth Station Homestead starting the project in January of 2018. Bryce arrived on site with a small crew of dedicated tradesmen who set about their work in a very target driven way. Goals were set each week with the right builder tasked to his strengths. We live over 2 hours’ drive from the nearest town so the logistics involved in having all materials on site when required were more complex. All the crew stayed on site for the duration of the project, staying away from family creates its own pressures but at no stage did these issues cause work to be held up. Safety in the work site was a big part of their team and this was taken seriously.

The Homestead is an historic Cobb building dating back to the early 1870’s. During the Kaikoura earth quake the damage sustained to the structural integrity of the building was significant, for a period of time consideration was given to demolishing and starting again. Due to the historic nature of the home the decision was made to rebuild the entire internal foot print and keep the external Cobb in its original state, basically a house within a house.

The proximity of the Homestead to the Alpine fault line combined with the Cobb material created a number of engineering issues that had to be over come through out the build. The fact that it is an historic building added another layer of scrutiny as well. At times it seemed like we were confronted with problems that needed attention virtually on a daily basis. This is where Bryce really showed his strengths as nothing ever seemed close to beating him. He has a very collaborative approach, calling on all his crew and sub-contractors to contribute to the problem solving and taking ownership of the outcome.

Hayward Construction have certainly left their mark in this piece of the South Island high country. Their efforts in bringing the damaged homestead back to life again is something that will be acknowledged for generations to come.

It has been a pleasure to work with Hayward Construction. Bryce Shirtcliffe, assisted by his father George and the team of contractors were used to do the Earthquake repairs to the building at 58 Armagh Street. The team were very professional in their approach to the work required to reinstate the building to 100% of the New Building Standard. Bryce liaised with the engineers to complete the necessary documents for submission to the City Council. This was a mammoth task which he steered along smoothly and effectively. I cannot speak highly enough about his careful, thorough approach and also the care he took to keep the various stakeholders in the loop with what was going on. As well as working with the engineers and organising the various subcontractors Bryce had to work with the insurer and the works managers assigned to the project. He conducted this in a very business-like manner satisfying all parties with his workmanship and delivery of outcomes. An example of the helpfulness from Bryce and his team is the way he segmented the work flow and by careful screening reduced the dust and noise - often noisy work was done after hours to assist the eye care businesses in the building to continue their work with the public. We appreciated the work of Bryce's painters. Jude and her work partner bent over backwards to do a fabulous job often in difficult circumstances. Bryce and Hayward Construction have done a great job.

“I’ve worked with Bryce of Hawyard Construction for over 14 years. During that time we have worked closely on many projects including building repair, conversion and major high end fit out work. This included Industrial, Office, Retail and Hospitality work. His work is excellent and I continue to use his services on projects. He takes a very proactive approach and is the most honest and open individual I’ve had the pleasure to work with in this industry. Consequently I happily recommend Hayward Construction to anyone requiring quality work and anyone looking for a construction company the actively works to get the project underway, to a particular budget and to be finished on time”.
